The author of this book is Charles Dickens, an English writer born in 1812. He was a great story-teller who tried to make people aware of social evils of the day. Dickens had written his stories through his own difficult life. Oliver Twist is an example of injustice and cruelty and how orphans were brought up in appalling conditions of the orphanage, where they did not have food and love.
This book is about a hungry and desperate orphan called Oliver Twist who ran away from his cruel master, trying to survive in the slums of London. He finds himself in London without a friend in the world. Then later a gang of thieves teaches him to steal. But while he is committing the crime, he falls into the hands of kind people who give him a new home. But the thieves want him back!
