S.2 Education Camp
“Learning beyond Classroom” is the mission of our education camp. We believe students have to go beyond classrooms and experience different learning processes. This year, the theme of the S.2 Education Camp is “Cultural Preservation and Urbanization in Hong Kong”. After the camp, S.2 students were able to understand more about Hong Kong’s traditions and the conflicts between cultural preservation and urban development in Hong Kong.
In the camp, S.2 students were divided into several groups to visit Sam Tung Uk Museum (三棟屋博物館) in Tsuen Wan. They were given worksheets to complete so as to find out more about the Hakka’s living in the past.
In addition, S.2 students visited the Ping Shan Heritage Trail (屏山文物徑) in Yuen Long, Ho Sheung Heung (上水河上鄉) in Sheung Shui and the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail (龍躍頭文物徑) in Fanling. By comparing their historical remains, S.2 students were able to understand more about cultural preservation in Hong Kong.
Furthermore, some S.2 students visited Sam Mun Tsai (三門仔) in Taipo. They had a chance to weave fishing nets and do bead stitches. It was great to experience the fishermen’s traditional living in Hong Kong.
Though the camp is over, it does not mean that the learning is over. S.2 students have to finish their projects and present their work after the visits. After the life experience on visiting the different remains, S.2 students should have a very clearer picture on our topic-“Cultural Preservation and Urbanization in Hong Kong”.
