Learning English at HLC
English classes are conducted in small classes of not more than 20 students.  A proportion of the English lessons are co-taught by a local teacher and a native-English speaking teacher. This allows for a low student to teacher ratio.

  • In addition to the co-taught lessons, students will also see the native-English speaking teacher for one lesson a week in which the emphasis will be solely on the development of students’ spoken English.  These lessons are designed to be fun and interactive to enhance students’ enjoyment in learning English and to build their confidence.

  • Confidence is an important factor in students’ progress of learning English, therefore measures are taken to break down language barriers and allow students to feel comfortable and confident when learning English.

  • The employment of smaller groups within the class to carry out tasks allows students to practise English whilst not feeling intimidated.

  • Drama activities are incorporated in English lessons, often in the form of role playing.  This allows students to practise their English in a ‘real life’ scenario, for example a restaurant role play.  Additionally, it creates an atmosphere that students are comfortable to work in and enjoy.
