Background:
LEAD Project--Learning through Engineering, Art and Design was first launched in Hong Kong in 2005 by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Laboratory and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The main feature of the project is that during the learning process, students integrate science, engineering, multimedia, art and music and at the same time, extend their creativity. As Dr. Rosanna Wong Yick-ming, Executive Director of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups put it, "LEAD is about instilling in young people a new way of learning. It is experimental and innovative; an avenue that challenges and excites young minds to discover and experiment for themselves."
HLC's involvement:
The visit to LEAD Centre served as an introduction to this innovative project. Students spent a day in the Centre, appreciating the showcase of products such as robots and hi-tech household kits. They also had hands-on experience in creating their masterpieces.
HLC is also proud to be equipped with a LEAD Room in the campus where students can extend their skills and interests. This co-curricular activity has attracted potential scientists who actively acquire and apply skills in designing, analyzing and problem-solving. We are also proud to announce that three S1 students were interviewed by Television Broadcast Company to present their creative invention: “Music Toilet” in the programme: 放學icu at 4:15p.m. on 10 DEC.
